LWVAL 2021 Legislative Report
Reporting on the 2021 Regular Session
of the Alabama Legislature


The Alabama Legislature convened on February 2, 2021, and ended on May 17, 2021.
 

The Alabama Legislature convenes the 2021 Regular Session on February 2. During this session, LWVAL will keep citizens informed about the legislature's activities regarding issues of importance to the League via the 2021 Legislative Report. The report will be updated weekly (with some exceptions). For each bill, the report will include bill sponsors, bill summary, link to complete bill text, current status of the legislation, LWVAL's position on the legislation, and LWVAL's action. Action Alerts urging citizens to contact their legislators will be posted in this report at times when their voice would be most effective. Action will be based on the LWVAL issue positions and/or League principles. These are the LWVAL 2021 legislative action priorities.

2021 LWVAL Legislative Priorities

The League of Women Voters of Alabama is focusing on voting rights - both access and process - during the 2021 Alabama Legislative Regular Session.

  • Voting Rights Issues as Adopted by Alabama Arise*

    • Universal Automatic Voter Registration

    • Voting Rights Restoration

    • Absentee and Early Voting

  • Fairmaps - redistricting without political bias; putting an end to gerrymandering

  • Voting Rights Advancement Act**

  • Government Transparency***

** This is federal legislation introduced in 2019 but expected to be reintroduced in 2021 during the 117th Congress.
